'100 Illustrators' - By Steven Heller and Julius Wiedemann
This book pulls together 100 of the most successful illustrators from across the globe. I find it useful as it shows a variety of work from each artists portfolio and with it their own quotes and ideas. A really good one to flick through if you are producing work and want to find an artist that's producing similar contemporary style pieces for further inspiration.
ART: The whole story
Really good insightful book I picked up whist in Brussels at the Modern Arts Museum. It discusses art styles and the works of artists from Prehistory to15th century, right up to 1946 to present day. Thought it would be a useful guide when conducting research during my time on the course.
Wellcome Collection 'Being Human' Exhibit
Description
S'Himi has carved the world map into gas cylinders and a pressure cooker, objects perceived to be rather dangerous. The global crisis can be perceived as intruding the home in this case. The artist has used domestic objects as means to carve into, which highlights the global climate disparities that some more vulnerable populations face more so. As people become familiar with their global impact, there is hope for a more sustainable future
Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium - Rene Magritte
I have always had a passion for Surrealism and enjoy making my ideas abstract and purposeful in its context. I find it fascinating how objects and sometimes simple imagery can have the biggest subconscious meaning and background in a personal sense. One of my biggest inspirations is the work of Rene Magritte as he uses symbolic art and compositions as a way of expressing a condition, emotion or feeling provoked in viewers.
